Layered Curriculum

Let us go on a journey with Buran on Seven Daughters and Seven Sons. On this journey, we will be doing a lot of exciting things that will help you earn points. The goal is to earn 100 points. I know you can do it.

Remember the following things:
·    You have to get 40 points in Layer C to get to Layer B
·    You have to get 30 points in Layer B to get to Layer A
·    You have to get 30 points in Layer A
·    Fill in the Score Sheet

Layer C: Basic Knowledge
- You have to earn 40 points in Layer C

Required:
__________ 1. Read the book; log it in your Reading Log (10 pts.)
__________ 2. Reading Comprehension Questions (10 pts)

Your Choice:
__________ 3. Make a Vocabulary Crossword Puzzle (10 pts.)
__________ 4. Write a letter home, from Buran’s point of view. (10 pts.)
__________ 5. Make a storyboard for Seven Daughters and Seven Sons. It has to have at least 8 cells, with illustration and summary. (10 pts.)
__________ 6. Write/ Draw evidences of Islamic culture. Give at least 5. (10pts.)
__________ 7. Write a report about the authors, Barbara Cohen and Bahija Lovejoy. (10 pts.)

Layer B: Application
    - You have to earn 30 points in Layer B

Required:
__________ 1. Compare and Contrast Buran’s Father, and Buran’s uncle. Include characteristics from the beginning of the story, and from the end. (10pts.)

Your Choice:
__________ 2. Role play your favorite scene in the story. Use costume, and use correct accent. (10 pts.)
__________ 3. Give proof/opinion of Jihha’s character. Give at least 5. (10 pts.)
__________ 4. Have a debate with a classmate, or by yourself, write an essay on “Was it deceptive of Mahmud to test Nasir in the way that he did?” (10 pts.)
__________ 5. Draw a portrait of Buran and Nasir. (10 pts.)
__________ 6. Diary- write at least 5 entries in a diary. It can be from any character’s point of view. (10 pts.)
__________ 7. Draw your favorite scene in the story. (10 pts.)

Layer A: Critical Thinking and Analysis
    - You have to earn 30 points in Layer A

Required:
__________ 1. Write a comparison essay about Buran/ Nasir’s life. What was Buran’s life before, and what was her life when she became Nasir? (10 pts.)

Your Choice:
__________ 2. Give examples of Buran’s business sense, and write/tell what these examples show. (10 pts.)
__________ 3. Write a dialogue between Mahmud and Nasir, if they decide to be honest with each other. (10 pts.)
__________ 4. Analyze the characters of the story (Buran/Nasir, Mahmud, Amin, Uthman, Father, Mother, Jihha, Ginhar, and Uncle) (10 pts.)
__________ 5. Interview with Buran/Nasir. Write at least 5 questions that you would like to ask Buran/Nasir, and her possible responses. (10 pts.)
__________ 6. Write a book report about Seven Sons and Seven Daughters. (10 pts.)
__________ 7. Make a story map of Seven Sons and Seven Daughters. (10 pts.)
__________ 8. Presentation on the contributions of Islam to our modern world today. (10 pts.)
