## Newton’s Laws

Objectives: At the end of this unit you will be able to:

1. State Newton’s Laws of Motion.
2. Explain how force, mass and acceleration are related.
3. Analyze action and reaction forces.
4. Calculate momentum
5. Explain conservation of momentum

_____1. Read pages 76 – 77 in your book on seatbelts.  Be able to answer questions. (5 points)

_____ 2. Read pages 78 – 82 in your book on Newton’s First Law.  Be able to answer questions. (5 points)

_____3. Complete the Chapter 3 Review on pages 90-91.  Answer questions. 1-24. (10 points)

_____4. Read pages 94 – 99 in your book on Newton’s Second Law.  Be able to answer questions. (5 points)

_____5. Use a balance to find the masses of an uninflated balloon and a balloon filled with air.  Drop the two balloons from the same height at the same time, and compare and contrast the rates at which they fall.  (5 points)

_____ 6. Create an accelerometer – see page 106 for hints! (5 points)

_____7. Read pages 110 – 116 in your book on Newton’s Third Law.  Be able to answer questions. (5 points)

_____ 8. You are a crane operator using a wrecking ball to demolish an old building.  You can choose to use a 100kg ball or a 150kg ball.  Which ball would knock the walls down faster?  Which ball would be easier to control?  Find a way to show me! (5 points)

_____ 9. Create a collage (collection of pictures from magazines) that demonstrate Newton’s Laws.  (10 points)
