Section I Basic Understanding 65 points maximum.

5. Act out a scene from a favorite chapter. 15 points.
6. Complete and "Element of the Mystery" worksheet showing
an example of each element from the novel. 15 points.
7. Choose 10 new or interesting words from the novel and make flash
cards with their definitions. Be sure to be able to tell their
meanings. 10 points.
8. View the film version of the book and compare it to the novel.

9. Find 6 examples of figurative language and draw cartoons
illustrating the literal interpretation. 15 points.
10. Be able to tell five clues from the novel that led to the
solution. 10 points.
11. Make a computer slide show telling the subplot of the story. 15 points.
12. Make a board game that illustrates the plot of the novel. 15 points.
Section II "B" level Choose one 15 points.
1. Change the character of Louanne. How would the story be different
if she were "normal"?
2. What if the dolls had a different message? What would it be and
how would they convey the message?
3. Rewrite the birthday party scene. Change the characters' reaction
to Louanne being at the party. How does this change affect Amy?
Louanne? Aunt Clare?
4. Make a diary that Amy might have kept expressing her thoughts
throughout the novel. Include at least 6 entries.
Section III. "A" level - Choose one. 20 points
1. Research capital punishment within our state. Examine which crimes
warrant capital punishment and how it is administered. Write an essay
stating reasons for or against capital punishment. Remember it must
be supported with specific examples and must be written clearly
without significant spelling or punctuation errors.
2. Research the mystery of Hohokum Indians. Why did they disappear?
Base your conclusions on your findings. Write clearly and without
significant errors.
3. Research world mysteries such as Atlantis, Stonehenge, The Bermuda
Triangle or Easter Island Statues. What do they have in common? How
are they different What explanation s do you support and why?
