Section 2 "B" Level: Application Select one activity to earn up to 15 points. In order to receive a "B," a student must have earned at least 85 points in the "C" category and 12 points in the "B" category.
Points Earned Maximum Points Activities

15 1 Microscopes and telescopes are very similar. Show how the lenses compare and contrast in these two tools. Why do they work the way they do? Write at least one good paragraph.

15 2 We have used the microscopes for many things in class. How else can microscopes be used? Write two good paragraphs.

15 3 Before putting it under the microscope, look closely at the object that Mrs. Hubie will give you. Now sketch what you think it will look like under 40x and 100x. Finally, actually look at them under the microscope and draw what you see at 40x and 100x.
Section 3 "A" Level: Critical Thinking Select one activity to earn up to 18 points. In order to receive an "A," a student must have earned at least 85 points in the "C" category and 12 points in the "B" category and 14 points in the "A" category. Choose only one.

18 1 (Use A level sheet.) Look in three different science books at how they introduce microscopes and how they use them. Your paragraphs should tell which book's presentation you thought was the best and why.

18 2 A new student has joined our class and he/she doesn't know any English. Decide what are the most important things that he/she needs to know about the microscope and how to use it. Show me how you will teach him/her. (May need to plan to come during a free period. Must not take more than 7 minutes.)

18 3 Under the microscope, look at pond water and find two things. One should be something that you think is an animal, and the other should be something that you think is a plant. Make a good sketch of each and write several sentences that tell why you think each one is what you say it is.
