4. A Voyage at Sea - (The Eye of the Hurricane) Describe what you would do to pass the time

if you were on an ocean voyage for five days. Write as though it were a ship's log.

Example: January 5, 2003-Today there was a squall at sea. The ship was tossing so

much I had to hold on to the railing. I was afraid I just might fall overboard.

January 6, 2003-You would have never known that there had been a storm yesterday.

The ocean is calm and it has been smooth sailing today. We went fishing off the

bow. We didn't catch anything, but we sure had fun trying.

imaginary countries, anything is possible.

7. Disappearing Crew- (The Mystery of the Mary Celeste) No one knows for sure what

happened to the Mary Celeste. Maybe what the captain explained is correct. Maybe not.

Make up your own theory of what happened to the crew of the Mary Celeste. Write a

story about it.

8. Dig Deeper-(The Breadfruit Mutiny) On an outline map of the world, trace the probable route

of the Bounty from England to Tahiti. Then imagine that you are Fletcher Christian on

Pitcairn Island. Write a paragraph defending your reasons for the mutiny. Don't forget

to use the book to find supporting evidence.

A LEVEL- 20PTS.

1. If Lucy, Edmund, and Eustace from The Voyage of the Dawn Treader had been transported

to: (a). the Bounty instead, how do you think they would have reacted to the mutiny?

(b) the Dei Gratia, how do you think they would have responded to the discovery of the

Mary Celeste?

c) the ship in the hurricane, how do you think they would have reacted during the storm?

You will need to record the reaction of each of the three children for each of the

situations.

2. Who do you think had the better adventure, the character in The Eye of the Hurricane or the

ones in The Voyage of the Dawn Treader? Explain and support your answer.

3. In The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, the ship is an old-fashioned sailing vessel. What other

kinds of ships would be good for adventures. How would a Viking ship, for example,

aid a Viking adventure? Different types of ships, such as ice breakers or submarines,

would be suitable for different types of adventures. Look in an encyclopedia, book

and/or internet about ships. Use what you learn to compare how certain ships could aid

certain types of adventures. Which ship would like to take an adventure in and support

your answer?
