Layer B:  Application/Analysis, 15 points.  Complete this layer before beginning Layer A. 

15 pts _____  17.  Observing and Comparing Different Cells Lab.  See first hand the difference between plant and animal cells as well as prokaryotes and eukaryotes.  What organelles can you identify?  See page 188-189 in your text book.  READ ALL DIRECTIONS BEFORE STARTING LAB.  Answer questions 1-4. 

10 pts _____  18.  Onions and Organelles Lab.  Identify different organelles of an onion cell using water and iodine stain.  See MiniLab 7.2 on pg. 182 for instructions.  Answer questions 1& 2 on notebook paper.  DON’T FORGET TO USE COMPLETE SENTANCES!!!. 

10 pts ______  19.  Be the Teacher.  This is your chance to be the teacher by making a worksheet and answer key based on cells.  Be sure to incorporate at least 3 different types of questions (T or F, fill-in-the-blank, essay, crossword, etc).  Each worksheet should have at least 20 questions.  For 5 more points, partner with a friend and answer each other’s worksheets (show Mrs. Penke). 

10 pts ______  20.  The Cell Song.  Demonstrate that you know all of the words to The Cell Song in a creative way.  Make a music video or jam out live for the class.  Talk to Mrs. Penke to make any special arrangements.

Layer A: Synthesis/Evaluation, 15 points 

15 pts _____ 22.  Create a 3-D Cell Model.  Use objects such as a foam ball, candy, Jello, erasers, etc to display your knowledge of cells.  Label all of the parts and attach a key explain the name and function of each organelle.  You will have to supply most of the objects you use. 

15 pts _____ 23.  Make a Poster. Relate cell organelles and their functions to something you already know a lot about.  For example, draw connections between cell parts and function to the parts of a car.  Arrange your connections on a poster for everyone else to see 

5-15 pts____ 24. Other.  Create your own project or research question and have it approved by Mrs. Penke.  Before bringing the idea to Mrs. Penke type on a laptop or write on paper the following things:

  1. Title of the project
  2. Explain how the project is related to cells
  3. The main points that will be included in your report/presentation
